Talk:Lord Grimrot (undead)
The below guide for spawning him is wrong, and is most likely a myth that grew around a really hard camp. While camping Grimrot this week I have seen live version 6 times, all at different times of the day. While I haven't seen dead Grimrot yet, it's almost definitely the same case of sheer randomness for him, just with a lower chance.
According to this post[1], the chances of live spawning are 8% and undead are 2%, which jives with my experience. To have him spawn at special times of day (not just night/day, but a special spawn that's different from normal night/day variance) would require the mob to have its own spawn script, but according to this dev[2], Grimrot has no spawn script at all-- i.e. he's completely normal, just rare. The only thing that leaves open to question is whether he's a night-only spawn, but I think others have confirmed he isn't, and I will try to myself if I ever get him to pop.
It's just a brutal, ridiculously rare camp. Put it this way: The chance for the OOT Ancient Cyclops to spawn is 1%, and his spawn time is only 6 minutes. The undead Grimrot's chance to spawn is 2%, but his spawn time is three hours and 12 minutes. For a static spawn, that makes him the rarest spawn in P99 that I can think of. --Countytime (talk) 04:54, 3 October 2016 (UTC)
How to maximize your chances of spawning the named[3]:
- Kill all the laying down putrid skeles. For faction.
- there is a wolf spawn (right) and dwarf skele spawn on left (and another one by dwarf) ... kill all of those as they could have another laying down putrid skele spawn for extra faction.
- If by the dwarf the named Gnoll spawns, leave it for the Monks and their quest.
- The STANDING Putrid is the key. He spawns only every 3 hours and 12 minutes. Under a tall table-like structure.
- Kill him at exactly 6-8 am game time or 6-8 pm game time.
- You dont have to wait around, just come back 3 hours later and kill the laying down putrid for faction while you wait for main spawn.
- In exactly 3h:12m the Standing will spawn. If you killed him between 6-8 pm, you have a 20% chance the Living Gimrot will be the spawn. If you killed him between 6-8 am you have a 20% chance it will be the Undead Grimrot. They harmtouch, be smart.
- So never kill the standing unless is between 6-8. Never ever.
- You dont have to wait around, just come back 3 hours later.
- You will have to fix your faction no matter what, when you have the parts bring an enchanter with you. Find the priest outside of the qeynos gates and have him root and memblur/unagro him so you can turn in lots and lots of gold for faction... its like 300pp worth of gold, but u can run to bank inside easy enough. With no root/memblur you have to chase the bastard around, its a pain.
- DO NOT TURN IN UNLESS YOU ARE WARMLY.
