I can confirm that the low quality versions of cat , wolf, and bear pelts/skins work to make leather padding.

I typically sit in EC while lfg and shout to buy pelts 1 plat each then take my skinning knife to anything that isn't low quality to make it a low quality knife.. then combine with spiderling silk.

Also plentiful in EC because lots of new players exp there and in nektulos forest.

They are plenty happy to sell you pelts and spiderling silk.. i've already made a few hundred of these in the past week... easy peasy.

I tried my skinning knife on a brute hide and it didn't do anything , I'll test out other low quality hides as I get my hands on them.
