Malmur's PoM Guide

From Project 1999 Wiki
Jump to: navigation, search

Plane of Mischief is perhaps one of EQ's most unique zone - it makes the top of many lists. The version of PoM we have on Project 99 is referred to as 'PoM 1.0'. During the LDoN Expansion Era the zone was completely repopulated with KOS mobs and only in the last couple years had brought back the 'card system' for item combinations.

More or less instead of loot enemies in PoM drop cards. They come in four sets (Squire, Knight, Crown, Throne) and four colors (Red, Blue, White, Black.)

So, why is PoM important to you?

Two reasons...

PoM is one of the best bind spots there is.

PoM has a zone out tree to Cobalt Scar (loc 693, +526, 93). It is located in the western forest area and should be the first thing you identify in PoM before exploring. Often it is marked with corpses, but sometimes it isn't. Learn the location of the tree.

PoM as a bind point gives you immediate access to Cobalt Scar and by extension immediate access to Shyshrine (banking), a short run to Kael (raiding). It gives you close access to Siren's Grotto (gem hunting hot spot), Western Wastes, Dragon Necropolis, and the Temple of Veeshan. Being parked prior to anticipated spawns is ideal - but, this isn't a bad place to respond from if new targets surprise the guild. Pick-ups are available at CS's Dragon Ring.

With an OT Hammer this spot is truly golden.

PoM can do a lot to improve your resists.

PoM's most well known items are by far its Resist Flowers. Each is a self only resistance spell clicky. There are five flowers in all. I have placed them from easiest to obtain to most difficult.

The Black Flower - 50+ Disease Resist Clicky (Red Squire, Blue Squire, White Squire, and Black Squire)

The Green Flower - 50+ Poison Resist Clicky (Red Knight, Blue Knight, White Knight, Black Knight) - Stacks with everything. With Resist Poison and Dead Man Floating it is easy to cap the resist.

The White Flower - 50+ Cold Resist (Red Crown, Blue Crown, White Crown, Black Crown) - Stacks with Circle of Summer and Heart of the Void buffs. Does not stack with Protection of Seasons or Resist Cold.

The Red Flower - 50+ Fire Resist Clicky (White Throne, White Crown, White Knight, White Squire) - Does not stack with normal resist buffs.  :(

The Blue Flower - 50+ Magic Resist Clicky (Red Throne, Blue Thrones, White Throne, Black Throne) - It won't stack with GoD or Resist Magic.

So, what do I need to do in PoM?

The first goal of everybody has been stated above - know the way to CS tree first. The forest has traps which can summon KOS pansies. They can easily kill a lvl 60. It is recommended those who can FD do or run to CS tree to zone out. They despawn when they lose agro.

The second goal is that everybody should obtain a Deck of Spontaneous Generation. This is the combine container for PoM Cards. This is a NO DROP container while the cards are free to trade. This is especially important for melee or those who do not intend to bind in PoM. It can be obtained by running an easy mini-quest. There are two ways of running the quest...

1. Bring a fishing pole & bait. If you fish in PoM's moat you can catch a King Cod Card or different color Cod Cards. You can use either the King Cod Card or all four colored cards for the turn in to get the Deck of Spontaneous Generation.

2. In the western wing of the castle there is a room known as 'Dinner Room' or 'Dinning Room'. It is a dangerous room as there are two halflings on the ceiling casting 700hp DD spells on you as you try to loot the mob 'Dinner' who is holding a King Cod Card. 'Dinner' can be killed from the hall and is a level one monster. It is recommended people obtaining their King Cod Card through this method send in a pet to kill Dinner and take the DDs and agro while they look and escape the room. The halflings are permarooted and will not follow. Harmshields are also useful. Getting passed the halflings isn't too much trouble as they do not see through invis.

Where do I get these cards for the combines...?

They can be purchased, traded for, or camped. The order from easiest to hardest to obtain are Squires, Knights, Crowns, and Thrones. Mobs that can potentially drop a higher card (i.e. A Crown) can also drop cards below it (i.e. Squires and Knights.)

Squires - Almost any Mob in the zone. Great place to hunt them with ease is the forest area.

Knights - Mobs on Castle wall and into the castle can drops knights. There are a few forest Mobs that can drop them such as Rissa (halfling), the forest bixie, the chest, and the halflings surrounding it.

Crowns - Mobs in Alice in Wonderland areas 3+, Doink in Upside-Down Area, Chessboard Gorillas, plants in the inner part of the hedgemaze, and very rarely from the forest chest.

Thrones - These are the rarest of cards. They can drop from Puppet Gods in the theater show (starts at 8am each game day), The White Stallion, and from the latter end of Alice in Wonderland (A4) at the largest halfling twins, TwentyTwo, and Stomples. Warning - Be careful killing Stomples (giant rabbit) as it can give you a faction hit to the zone. Immediately turn in his foot to Debbis The Fish to restore it. Turn "A Lucky Skunk Foot" to Vinny V D`vicci for another positive faction hit.

How do I get to PoM?!

The Plane of Mischief is accessed via a small castle you click on deep in NTOV. There is an art to running it under certain conditions, but you'll most likely meet a fiery and terrible death.

Speak with guilds that are in ToV about obtaining a CoTH there. Some magicians sell them or even give them for free. :) Please don't try and run it on your own. :( Coffins cost money.

Here is a video of the run. :D https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DhQQfk7jMb8

Expected Etiquette in PoM

It cannot be understated that PoM on live was a club for folks that loved to explore and work together. It is considered by some to the the 'anti-raid zone' of EQ. Thus far on P99 the regulars in the zone take time to assist people and folks are eager to help one another. The only rivalries in the zone are friendly ones.

All that rival guild nonsense and scummy behavior is not applauded in PoM. It doesn't matter what tag you fly there - its neutral ground and you will see folks eagerly working together from all guilds.

What are some neat things to check out?

The zone is lush with amazing things. Great sights and clever puns. Absurdity and madness.

Pinky can be located in East Wing. He loves knock knock jokes. Tell him 'knock knock' and he will send you flying backwards. :) Make sure not to have a pet or it will aggro him.

Dancing Sphinx are in East Wing just before Pinky. Tell them you want to learn to dance and they will teach you the Marinara!

Lithianth is a cursed unicorn which is part of a PoG quest. If you ask him where to find 'phat lewtz' he is kind enough to tell you he unfortunately has none, but to check with the Prince in Plane of Growth. Asking the Prince this will result in you being death touched.

The Shakespeare Room is off of Diner Room and leads to Lithianth's Room. Here you will find rat forms of Shakespearean characters.

Lithianth's Room is an amazing sight to see... Half black and half white.

Bristlebane's Theater is an amazing sight. Every game day at 8am the audience fills the theater and eventually Bristlebane appears to watch the puppet show! Behind the curtain the puppet gods appear including Rallos Zek, Erollisi Marr, Tunare, Innoruuk, the Tribunal, Solusek Ro, and a Bristlebane puppet! Bristlebane remarks he is displeased there is no Cazic Thule puppet. It seems the Lord of Fear has STAGEFRIGHT! :D If you kill the halfling Geb it 'breaks' the script so the gods do not despawn when the show ends.

Chessboard is a giant chessboard. Amazing to see. Be careful not to step on the actual board as a lot of pits are on it to the rat maze.

Alice in Wonderland is one of the most popular areas. The rooms keep growing and growing and growing...

Upside Down Area is truly remarkable. Not great loot, but it is something that needs seen in person to understand.

Treasure Room is an empty room containing Bristlebane's throne and treasure. Years ago during an interview one of the Velious developers discussed how PoM 1.0 was never fully completed. This was an area they never populated and was indeed intended for a battle with Bristlebane like in 2.0.

The Hedgemaze is a garden of caster plants and the home of the zone's most important sphinx. To get your deck of spontaneous generation you have to turn your King Cod Card into him. He can be found in the center of the maze.

The Ratmaze is a place folks often fall because of the many pits around the zone. It is full of rats and lost adventurers. Many folks like visiting here as it contains non-summoning mobs that commonly drop knights.

Final Notes

PoM is a unique zone and an amazing experience in EQ. It is also a giant maze/fun house. It is highly recommended you ask folks there to give you a tour of the zone to show you all the camp areas. A few important things to remember are be careful of forest pansies, avoid the Dinner/Dining Room, don't hail the flower 'Life' (it will death touch you), don't hail gorillas as they will randomly agro, and be careful with the gorillas on chessboard as they add real easy and are highly MR.
