Stat Suggestions

  • Intelligence or Wisdom, (whichever is higher) governs your chance to gain skill increases.
  • Dexterity governs your ability to successfully craft your new elixirs.
  • Charisma governs your merchant costs.

Location Considerations

The following is intended as a guide for those interested in gaining the most from a Rogue's death-craft while exploring and leveling. Freeport is the only Classic city that has a poison merchant supplier in it, while most starting cities on Faydwere allow for easy access to merchants scattered across the continent. Making poisons is a somewhat costly but a very highly underrated skill unique to rogues that adds versatility and supplements kill power to a 'lack luster' assortment of stabbing instruments (until expansions). To begin the art of concocting your tainted tinctures, spend 20 points in Make Poison at level 20.

Suggested Leveling Guide

(non-bold steps may be skipped)

  • (triv 40) Solvent Gangrene (Grave Mold x2)
    • Can be used on most monsters in game with effectiveness. Highest trivial poison using (Reg) Suspension and (Reg) Poison Vial
  • (triv 42) Crystal Eritus (Crystallized Marrow x2)
    • Commonly dropped in Befallen by Ice bone variety skeletons
  • (triv 71) Lixt Wing Dust (Embalming Dust x2)
    • Suggested to sell these back as only works on the undead. Embalming Dust normally on gypsy merchants in Oasis, as well as the Commonlands and in Butcherblock / GFay.
  • (triv 87) Maddening Sap (Succulent Sap x2)
    • Common drop in Overthere many merchants have these on them across the major cities.
  • (triv 119) Lethargic Bliss (Whore's Bane x2) (req Lined Poison Vial, Constrict Suspension)
    • Material commonly dropped in Najena off Ogre guards. Can usually be purchased from Magicians camping their focus items for 1p each as they vendor for 5gold.
  • (triv 130) Brain Freeze (Gelsemium Root x2)
    • First recipe using Sealed Poison Vial, that with the cost of purchasing these vendor sold only materials means its time to get your pottery up to create vials yourself.
  • (triv 151) Choking Asmag (Asmag Weed x2)
    • commonly dropped in Solusek's Eye (SOLDUNGA) off goblins (as is Soot Hemlock save for later). At this point, you should be looting Fine steel, and blocks of ore to get flush with fliff. A bar group can easily get you into your mid 30's while you farm these components
  • (triv 162) Languid Lixt Wing (Lixt Wing Stalk x2)
    • Commonly dropped in Everfrost by Snow Orcs. Players sell to merchants for a few gold, so bribe the Druids working their charms on Mammoths to kill orcs too and sell their loot to you, or just get them from the merchants around Halas
  • (triv 183) Dilapidating Ash (Soot Hemlock x2)
    • Previously farmed in your goblin killing groups in your 30s, you can also find these very commonly at the Druid circle vendor, and Gypsy camp vendors in lavastorm.
  • (triv 194) Monk's Hood Aconite (Wolves Bane x2)
    • Found on Gnolls in South Karana, and Split Paw. From 35 to late 40's you can farm in split paw and get plenty of these little beauties.

Note: At this point, you are considered a 'grandmaster' poison-making-menace to Norrath. Only the most dedicated, maybe masochistic?, of Rogue will ever reach this level of aptitude. It is safe to consider yourself at this point as Elite. From here on, furthering your skills will depend on your own choices on where to hunt, what to kill, and what to buy to accessorize and maximize your poison collection catalogue.
