Important NPCs
Bank (Map #4)
The banker of Kaladim, Donnel Ratsbome, is located in Ratsbone Treasure and Assay Office. It is the building immediately inside the entrance to N. Kaladim next to the mine and with a firepit outside of it (with the Rogue's Guild).
Bag Vendors
Kaladim has a few bag vendors but the ones closest to the entrance are Vacto Molunel directly at the entrance to the Warrior's Guild, and Aarina Ratsbone who is in the first building to the right if you take the right split after entering Kaladim (she sells other containers other than Backpacks as well).
Food, Drink, and Bandages Vendors
Kaladim itself has very few generic food and drink vendors, but leaving Kaladim and immediately outside the front gates are three houses. The furthest two have merchants Iglan Thranon and Gamin Griststone that sells Water, Iron Rations/Rations, and Bandages.
Quests
Butcherblock Mountains
Where/What to Hunt
Initially you'll want to stay very close to Kaladim (directly north on the map), so that you can run for help if necessary. As you level you can slowly venture further into the camps of goblins, roving aviaks, or roving giant scarabs.
Butcherblock Mountains is one of the best low level zones in the game. Its newb yard directly in front of the gates of Kaldim over the large ridge has a huge amount of mobs that spawn frequently and have decent level ranges.
At level 1 focus killing the A Decaying Dwarf Skeleton for gear and Bone Chips (see quests). At 2 you can add in killing the A Rock Spiderling for Spiderling Silk (for tradeskills), A worker scarab for Scarab Carapace (see quests) and A Large Skunk for Skunk Scent Glands (see quests).
At level 4+ you can start killing A Krag Chick for Aviak Chick Talons (see quests), and A large spider for Spider Silk (for tradeskills). Between 5-7 is somewhat more difficult to find level appropriate mobs in zone so just keep killing what is blue, add in things like a giant bat, or head to orc hill in Greater Faydark.
After level 8 you can have a field day killing undead at the chessboard, Aqua Goblins, A Giant Scarabs all over, and multiple goblin/undead/and bandit camps.
Dangers
Honestly Butcherblock is one of the safest zones in the game. Most camps are sectioned off into their own areas, there are numerous guard outposts to run to if you get into trouble, and the sight lines are fairly open so you don't get surprised often.
As long as you use some common sense and don't let your self get ganged up on you shouldn't have too much trouble in this zone. There are a few roaming mobs to look out for though: Corflunk runs up and down the road between Gfay and Dagnor's, and orc runner also runs the same route. Also by the water there are some roving aqua goblins to look out for, but compared to most zones spawns are generally static with few aggressive roamers.
Quest Shopping List
The following items dropped by monsters in Butcherblock Mountains can be used to complete quests in Kaladim:
- Bone Chips: drops off skeleton mobs like A Decaying Dwarf Skeleton. Need 4x for Bone Chips (Kaladim) which gives great experience all the way until ~12.
- Skunk Scent Gland: drops off A Large Skunk. Need 4x for Skunk Hunting which gives decent experience, and free Cleric/Paladin spells.
- Aviak Chick Talon: drops off A Krag Chick. Need 4x for Aviak Chicks which gives decent experience, and patchwork armor.
- Scarab Carapace, Cracked Giant Scarab Carapace, Pristine Giant Scarab Carapace: drops off A worker scarab and A Giant Scarab respectively. Need for Scarab Armor Quests which gives great low level armor that all 4 dwarf classes can use.
- Scrap Metal: drops off Cleaner VII which is located in the Kaladim mine after killing Giant Rats. Need for Cleaner Clockwork which gives a non lore Knight Card which can later be turned into an NPC in Ocean of Tears for a chance at up to Bronze armor. Great source of early armor to be used or sold if not your size.
- Dwarf Head, and Rusty Axe: drops off Blyle Bundin. Need for Blyle Bundin's Head which gives bronze weapons.
- Ogre Head: drops off Corflunk and Zarchoomi. Need for Ogre Heads which gives Dwarf WAR/PAL/CLR only Bloodforge Armor (which have really cool graphics).
Not mentioned above is the famous Crushbone Belts and Crushbone Shoulderpads Quest which are turned in at Kaladim but don't drop in Butcherblock.
