The Ankexfen's fates were more severe. The entire race was exterminated, but from the ashes were born the four goblin races.

Description

A goblin is a legendary evil or mischievous creature; a grotesquely evil or evil-like phantom. They are attributed with various abilities, temperaments and appearances. In some cases, goblins have been classified as constantly annoying little creatures somewhat related to the brownie and gnome. They are usually depicted as small, about the size of a dwarf. They also often are said to possess various magical abilities. They are also very greedy and love money.

Although similarly aggressive and brightly colored, goblins in EverQuest are not directly associated with and should not be confused with Orcs.

Goblins seem to prefer subterranean environments; caves, tunnels, and dungeons, but are adaptable enough to venture on the surface and live in tents to wage war or do their gobby business. Water goblins and aqua goblins tend to live in the water or in proximity to it.

The origin of goblins is explained in The Visiting Priestess quest. They are the remnants of a previous race called Ankexfen who followed Rallos Zek. They warred alongside the ogres and giants against the Council of Rathe in Plane of Earth but lost that war, and were slain and revitalized as goblins before being adapted to and settled in four environments: ice, fire, water, and slime. Goblins' memories of their past were erased and like ogres and most giants, reverted to a crude, tribal society.
