Description

The hunt for this NPC continues. See the 'Hunt for Gnasher' section below. Is either on MerchantsofQeynos faction, or GuardsofQeynos faction, unlike the other gnolls of the area. This is strange considering that he is allied with the 'shadier' groups of Qeynos, and his faction hits clearly show this. Note: The Guards will neither attack you, nor aid you should you attack Gnasher.

The Hunt for Gnasher

One person: He spawned 11:pm game time outside BB entrance and walked North.

Another person: Unclear if he has a placeholder or estimate on respawn time. I struggled to find him for two hours in the zone, but returned a week later and found him daytime (game time) near entrance to Surefall, closer to the path. I followed him for a bit before killing him. He makes a U back and forth basically tracing the edge of the valley between the hills of the zone. To visualize: start down near the hut on the path close to the Qeynos zoneline - he walks near there on the BB side, then up to Surefall on the inner edge of the mountains outside BB, then down the edge of the mountains near the body of water on the other side of the zone towards the Hadden spawn point. But then he goes even farther almost to the city ZL, then he turns right around and makes his U again. I didn't wait for respawn. I have noticed the ranger NPCs getting into spontaneous battles with other gnolls, and I have a feeling he gets killed by them or he just has a really long respawn time.

See also this forum thread.

Based on my research on the red server with my 39 ranger, I would conclude that this NPC either has a long(ish) respawn time, or has a placeholder that is naturally killed by guards or other pathers in the zone. He will respawn with absolutely no player intervention; i.e. he is not triggered, or has a placeholder that guards don't kill. In addition, despite game lore making us think that he comes out at night only (and presumably despawns during the daytime), he can spawn at any time of the day and does not ever despawn. Since he is on a different faction than the other gnolls, he also is never engaged by any pathers in the zone, and will therefore stay up until killed by a player.

He doesn't have a "placeholder" in the sense that no other creature in the zone has the same pathing as him (neither gnoll or otherwise).

I wouldn't say that he nearly goes to the ZL. He makes a long pause at around 1118,523,40 in sight of the merchants house, before turning around starting his circuit again.
