Description

Frogloks are an utterly numerous race of bipedal, sentient, frog-like humanoids which inhabit various swamps of Norrath. Most frogloks are simple warriors, shamans, or wizards but there are exceptions of paladins, shadow knights, and magicians known. Though adult frogloks are adaptable and capable of travel beyond their native swamps, they may only reproduce in the swamps they come from. Not much is known of the details of their life cycle, but a juvenile form has been observed, resembling a bipedal tadpole with short stubby legs.

Frogloks are a race capable of turning undead, as many of their kind have descended into ghouls in Lower Guk and Plane of Fear.

At the initial release of EverQuest, the Froglok NPC race resided in Upper Guk (living), Lower Guk (living and undead), and Innothule Swamp. There are also Frogloks in Kunark found mainly in Swamp of No Hope, Firiona Vie, Old Sebilis, and Trakanon's Teeth. Their native architecture (present in Swamp of No Hope) consists of large wooden platforms suspended over the swamp, with huts built on top, somewhat similar to Kelethin of the Wood Elves.

History

At the release of the post-classic Legacy of Ykesha expansion (2003), Frogloks (also known as Guktans) became a playable race. The in-game lore explained that the Frogloks were blessed by Lord Mithaniel Marr and lead to overthrow the trolls. The now sentient Frogloks overtook the trolls and claimed Grobb as their own city, renaming it to Gukta ("New Guk"). Trolls fled to the Teir'dal city of Neriak.

During the events of The War in 2005, the trolls reclaimed Grobb with the assistance of the Teir'Dal. Gukta was relocated to the Rathe Mountains. The Frogloks, distraught at their loss, took to darker magics and deception to assist in gaining their old home back. Frogloks can now, in addition to the aforementioned classes, play as necromancers, rogues, and shadow knights. In 2014, Monks became a playable class for Frogloks. [1]
