Description

This unfriendly hermit lives by himself in an enclosed property in the southern plains. He casts Flame Lick, Grasping Roots, Burst of Fire and Minor Healing. Hailing him does not appear to do anything.

The door to his hut does not open. To entice him out, you can use a spell, use a ranged weapon or send a pet to attack. It is also possible to pull him out by standing behind his hut, targeting him, and "/say I am here to kill you" and he will run out and attack.[1] He is on a two minute spawn timer.

Caution the Nov 6th, 2020[2] patch added a higher level A Tesch Mas Gnoll from the north west that will path around the hermit wall. It seems to path back to the hut every 6-10 minutes and cons threatening. There is a second A Tesch Mas Gnoll from the south east that pathes up to the wall and stops on it's southern side for a very long time. Additionally there is a A Treant which pathes near the hut on the east side. There is also a cyclops that paths north and south east of the hut sometimes. Sentry Alechin will rarely sometimes path into the hermit area through the wall, then back out. Synger Foxfyre paths close and will assist him, her being level 26 may mean bad news.

The stone wall that surrounds the Hermit's Hut does seem to block line of sight from these pathers. The door however does not. (January 29,2022, was sitting in front of the door, a lion walked in through the wall and bit me. Could have seen me by the door and aggro kept building up as he walked around outside)

The Cyclops can see over that wall, however. [He'll actually walk in a straight line through the wall, house and wall again so I believe if he's coming you have to leave the area while he passes through as nowhere is safe, making it a dicey afk camp if you can't hide/invis/fd.]

  • Fun Fact: You can climb onto the Hermit's rooftop by jumping up from the barrels against the wall and use the /say text mentioned above to bring him up top with you. Being in the center of the wall's circle this way seems to keep the player just outside of the pathing gnoll's aggro radius even as it paths by the door. It makes it much easier to keep watch for any oncoming pathers that may pass through the wall as well given that your plane of view is now above the wall itself.
