General Rules
In general the wiki needs images! Image submissions falling into any of the categories where you would already find some images on the p99 wiki are highly encouraged: please add new (appropriate) images to the wiki!
Image Replacement Priority
The wiki has an inherent tension. On the one hand, we ideally want the wiki to be "encyclopedia-like" and neutral, with no character names in images. On the other hand, letting people upload screenshots with names, for "bragging rights", encourages image uploads (and the wiki still needs many images).
Similarly, as a classic wiki we want classic screenshots ... but Luclin ones are better than nothing. These factors combine into the following image replacement rules:
- IMPORTANT: The wiki still desperately needs hundreds of completely missing screenshots: before you think about replacing images, please consider instead devoting that time to adding new images to pages that have none instead.
- You can always add an (appropriate) graphic to a page that has none:
- having no image is the worst, so if a page has no relevant image you can always upload one
- You can always replace Luclin images with non-Luclin ones:
- screenshots of Luclin graphics are always inferior to all other screenshots; you can always replace a Luclin screenshot with a non-Luclin one
- You can always replace classic "named" image with a new name-less version
- Again, there's a tension here between respecting people's efforts to upload screenshots, but also wanting a neutral wiki, so this rule attempts to strike a compromise. Please do not just go through the wiki cropping out people's names!
- However, please do feel free to replace named screenshots with entirely new (name-less) screenshots you've taken.
- Do not replace perfectly good screenshots with one containing your character name!
- New named screenshots are no better than existing named screenshots: it is not acceptable to replace a screenshot with someone else's name with a screenshot that has your character's name instead.
- In fact, doing so hurts the wiki overall, because it discourages others from uploading screenshots for bragging rights if they know their effort will be rewarded by having those rights removed.
Items
In general, images of items should not be uploaded to item pages. The primary exception to this are epic weapons or other "special" items with completely unique graphics. Instead, images of items should be uploaded to their corresponding fashion category or categories.
Fashion Categories
All images of items should instead be added to the corresponding item fashion category (or categories). See FashionQuest Guide for more information about these categories.
For instance, if you have a picture of your character wearing an Advisor Robe, you should not add it to that page. Instead, you should add it to the two fashion categories for Advisor Robe: Category:Fashion: Crimson Robe of Alendine and Category:Fashion: Dark Maroon.
The reason for this policy is simple: in EverQuest, many items look the same. If we add screenshots to item pages, then we'll have duplicated screenshots on different item pages, and people looking at item A won't see the screenshots for item B (even though they both look the same).
The fashion categories instead describe an entire set of items that look the same (or at least similar, possibly with different tints), and so provide a single place to upload all images of how that set of items look.
NPCs
- Images of NPCs should be named for example as "npc_a_giant_rat.png" (lower case capitalization). Typically, keep apostrophe (') and ticks (`) in the filename.
Players
Except in fashion images (and very rarely on item page images, such as server-first epic screenshots) screenshots of players do not belong on the wiki. Again, the goal of the wiki is to be a neutral "encyclopedia of classic EverQuest", and showing individual player images doesn't fit that goal.
Other Images
Images of other types, such as maps, strategy, etc, are acceptable (and encouraged!).
User-Created
Fanart, user created drawings, etc must be given credit to their original authors with reference links whenever possible.
